Undoubtedly one of the finest producers, remixers, and DJs in Europe, Domu is one of the leading lights in the ‘broken beat’ scene. And much more besides.

Basically one of the busiest men in show business, Domu’s work rate and consistency level are astonishing

He is the real name behind many of dance music’s most mysterious pseudonyms: First there is Sonar Circle, avant garde Drum and Bass outfit signed to the legendary Reinforced Records. Then Domu, his main guise, designed to further the explorations into the syncopated rhythm, remixing and appearing on many labels such as 2000Black, Archive, Ninja Tune, Sonar Kollektiv, Compost, Rush Hour, Especial, Bitasweet, Schtum and many others. Umod, the backwards glitchy Hip – Hop kid, all nerdy and introverted, has had one album and a few remixes on Sonar Kollektiv, Jazzanova’s imprint.

Then the collaborations, Bakura with Robert Marin on Especial Records Japan, a boogie – Brazilian fusion, culminating with the Reach The Sky, their first LP released this year.

Alongside Archive and Neroli head honcho Volcov they created Rima – with an album that dropped on Compost Records in 2003. And Finally, Yotoko, the deep Techno outfit, formed with web designer and long time friend, Shifty a.k.a Dave Farlom. The Dutch label Delsin was home to the LP Wet Ink from 2004. Domu’s 2001 LP Up and Down was followed by the superb Return of the Rogue in 2005, and is a step further into the depths of drum, synth and vocal explorations.

Remixing is also continuing nicely, with mixes of Kidzen, Jazztronik and others coming soon. Domu is also a DJ of 13 years pedigree. His touring has taken him to Japan, Australia, USA, and most of Europe and Scandinavia, playing on the international circuit since 1998.

These have been on tours with many of his musical heroes and contempories – 4Hero, Bugz in the Attic, Jazzanova, I G Culture, Phil Asher, Rainer Truby, Chateau Flight, Kaidi Tatham, Gilles Peterson, Theo Parrish, Photek, Patrick Forge, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Jazztronik, Raw Fusion (Mad Mats), Nu-Spirit Helsinki, Swell Session, Titonton, John Tejada, Ayro, Rednose Distrikt – the list goes on.

Domu is a resident at the now 5 years old CO-OP at Plastic People, London, which many consider to be the hub of forward thinking dance music. His DJ sets go way beyond the sounds of broken beat, as he cuts and scratches his way through hip hop, funk, boogie, house, Latin, and techno – a finer joiner of dots you will struggle to find.

He is currently producing Pete Simpson’s debut album for Papa, has started work on his next Umod album and has remixes on the way for The Rebirth, Tarantulaz, and L’Aroye.
As if that weren’t enough he has just launched his own label
Treble O. Check the Domu website for more info.
