The Bamboos
Australia’s hardest hitting funk band are readying their next album for Tru Thoughts. Release come in 2008, as will news of UK dates in the Autumn.
Under the direction of band leader and producer Lance Ferguson The Bamboos have enthralled funk afficionados and dancefloors alike since their first self funded release Eel Oil / Blackfoot and subsequent 7” for Kenny Dope and Keb Darge’s Kay Dee label.
Now Tru Thoughts unleash their debut album, (with licenses to Ubiquity for USA and P Vine for Japan) and it’s as hella good as you might expect.
The first lady of soul Alice Russell crops up on two tracks, the debut single Step It Up and the outrageously good cover of Afronaught’s seminal broken beat track Transcend Me, and the rest of the album rolls out the deepest, fiercest, tightest funk. Live, The Bamboos have built their rep in Australia and New Zealand by serious gigging, with their shows taking on the form of extended mix tape style affairs, rolling their tracks together with whiplash funk breaks for maximum dancefloor pressure. Last year they performed with Quantic and Alice Russell for the QSO tour in Oz and NZ.
They played their first UK tour in 2006, and will ceratainly be back for more.
